Professional Cabaret Soloist

$1,500 cash prize 1st place

$150 registration fee (includes private critique w/ Andalee after the event*)

For the dancer of the "sparkly" variety (Cabaret/Oriental/Raqs Sharqi). If you promote yourself as a professional performer and receive standard professional fees for paid performances then we want you to challenge yourself to 2 possible rounds of competition including the LIVE music finals where the top 6 can show off improvisational skills and knowledge of the Raqs Sharqi art form.


Preliminary round will be Saturday June 30, 2018. Your set should be no longer than 5 minutes in length. Music should be Middle Eastern/North African/Turkish/Greek/Armenian in origin and can be either classic or modern arrangements. Zills and veil optional according to the dancer’s presentation style. Any other props should not be used for more than half of the set. No Fire. No Nudity. No explicit lyrics. Final round an approximately 8 minute set to live music on Sunday July 1, 2018 including a Raqs Sharqi piece, drum solo, and short outro. *All performers to receive a private review/critique of your performance with Andalee

Belly Dance Fusion Soloist

$1000 Cash Prize 1st Place

$125 registration fee (includes private critique w/ Andalee after the event*)

For the dancer interested in Fusion styles of Belly Dance. There is room for many types of Belly Dance Fusion but the performance should have some clear roots in Belly Dance by way of styling and technique. There are no music style restrictions but the music and performance must be appropriate for all ages in the audience. If you enjoy Fusing Belly Dance with other styles such as (but not limited to) Indian, Flamenco, Samba, Tribal, Hip Hop, etc. then this is the challenge for you! Set length needs to be no longer than 5 minutes. Props are ok. No Fire. No Nudity. No explicit lyrics. The competition is set for Saturday June 30, 2018.

Troupe

$1000 Cash Prize 1st Place

Open to Cabaret, Folkloric, and Tribal style troupes. We are looking forward to seeing dynamic groups of 3 dancers or more that have put together a presentation that showcases the group’s cohesiveness and and unique flavor. Troupes will have up to 7 minutes to show the audience and judges what makes them the Best in the West! Music should have some Middle Eastern/North African/Turkish/Greek/Balkan influence (can include more contemporary Western influences/arrangements as well with a Middle Eastern Re-mix). For example no *completely* Western or *completely* South Asian music. Modern arrangements ok. Zills, veil, and other props are optional according to the troupe’s style. No Fire. No Nudity. No explicit lyrics. The competition is set for Sunday July 1, 2018

Apprentice Soloist

$500 Cash Prize 1st Place

$100 registration fee (includes private critique w/ Andalee after the event*)

The "Apprentice" category is open to Cabaret and Tribal style belly dancers whom are not yet considered professional and still under the mentorship of an instructor. If you are working on your art while performing at community events and haflas but don’t regularly perform and do not “gig” or accept performance fees or, then this is the category for you! So take this opportunity to challenge your self and receive invaluable feedback! Your set should be no more than 4 minutes and should include a short drum solo. Zills and veil are optional. No Fire. No Nudity. No explicit lyrics. The competition is set for Saturday June 30, 2018.

Derbekki Soloist

$500 Cash Prize

Whether you are a professional touring musician or your bellydance partner has talked you into picking up the Derbekki, now it's your turn to shine and have them carry your bags.

is a Belly Dance event that recognizes the "Drummers" are a vital aspect of the Belly Dance community and we want to show them our support.

This is open to both Turkish and Arabic style of drumming. You will have two minutes to perform a solo to a pre recorded track that will be available to dowload after you register. There is a 15 person cap for this event and the winner will recieve a $500 cash prize.

Non-Competitive

Are you curious about being in a competition but not sure you want to be rated against other performers? Or, would you like to have the opportunity to go through the same experiences as a competitor including invaluable feedback from judges and a 30 minute critique and review with Andalee? This is a unique option for the performers in our community that are not interested in placing in a competition but would still like the experience of putting together a fantastic routine within the guidelines of the competition. Bring your best show, costume, hair, make up, stage personality, and technique to the stage and find out what the professional judges really think. You will be placed directly after the category that best fits your presentation.
